Giving Tuesday: Global Giving Month Recap

This Giving Tuesday, we're proud to recognize employees' efforts during McCormick’s Global Giving Month. Teams around the world organized volunteering and fundraising events to demonstrate our commitment to the communities where we live, work, and operate. Thank you to everyone who contributed!

Here is a snapshot of the charitable activities from around the world:

Americas Region

  • Global Headquarters and the Maryland Food Bank – Pack to Give Back Event

Each year, the Maryland Food Bank partners with the corporate community to provide extra cheer to their families in need across the state by distributing holiday meal kits. In one day, hundreds of McCormick Global HQ employees assembled 5,000+ holiday meal kits in partnership with the Maryland Food Bank. Americas President, Andrew Foust, Chief Communications Officer, Lori Robinson, and Maryland Food Bank President & CEO, Carmen Del Guercio, kicked off the event and thanked employees for supporting thousands of food insecure Marylanders.

  • Maryland Logistics Center and the United Way – Backpack Event

McCormick Maryland Logistics Center employees assembled 3,000 backpacks of food for local students in partnership with the United Way of Central Maryland. The effort supports the United Way’s "On Track for Success" program which provides non-perishable items for children and their families. Team Manager Jeff Bozier and UWCM Representative Katie Downs kicked off the event and thanked employees for giving students across the state food to take home for weekend. Joining Jeff to lead the McCormick Team packing line were MLC leaders Carlos Putney and John Selby.

Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Region

  • EMEA Headquarters and Aylesbury Food Bank – Winter Warmer Packing Event

More than 60 colleagues got together at the EMEA HQ in Haddenham, UK, for a volunteering event to support Aylesbury Foodbank. The McCormick team set up a mini production line in the Haddenham restaurant and then bagged up items such as thermal mugs, blankets, hand warmers and hygiene kits for this local good cause. EMEA President Ana Sanchez and the entire EMEA leadership team took part in this initiative.

  • McCormick Portugal and AND – Portuguese Humanitarian Aid Organization

A team of 16 volunteers from our Portuguese business each invested three hours of their time to support AND – a national humanitarian aid charity tackling poverty in emergency situations such as the Ukraine conflict and in Morocco following the recent devastating earthquake in the north of the country. Members of the McCormick group spent their time recording and organizing clothes and toys donated to AND. These will then be transported to crisis zones and distributed to those in need.

  • McCormick Spain and Red Cross – Christmas Toys Campaign & Food Preparation

A cross-functional team of McCormick Spain Sales, Marketing and Finance employees partnered with the Red Cross in Sabadell. Our volunteers divided their time between meeting and registering families for the upcoming Christmas toys campaign and helping at the permanent food preparation area for all those in the local area requiring support every day.

  • McCormick Poland and Warsaw Oncology Hospice – Supporting the Hospice’s Annual Picnic

A total of 60 employees from our Stefanowo site in Poland joined forces to help make Warsaw Oncology Hospice’s annual picnic a success. The McCormick team prepared 220 product gift bags which were handed out at the event. They also used they culinary skills to prepare more than 1,000 cookies as well as collecting more than $600 for the local charity.

  • McCormick Turkey and Dubai  Supporting Missing Maps Charity

A total of 20 volunteers from across both sites took part in an online volunteering exercise in partnership with Missing Maps. Each year, disasters around the world kill nearly 100,000 people and affect or displace double that number. Many of the places where these disasters occur are literally 'missing' from open and accessible maps and first responders lack the information they need to make informed decisions regarding relief efforts. The McCormick team worked with Missing Maps to help plot local areas. The information shared will aid humanitarian organizations if these locations are affected by disasters and crises in the future.

  • McCormick Romania and Rotary Levant Bucharest Association – Forest Tidy Up

33 members of our Romanian team embraced Global Giving Month by partnering with the Rotary Levant Bucharest Association to tidy up an area of forestry in the city of Harghita-Bai. The group picked up litter and collected plastic bottles to smarten up this tourist spot. City Mayor Arpad Kelemen was so impressed he joined the activity, congratulating McCormick for our community work.

  • McCormick Giotti and D&A in Italy

More than 170 employees in Italy participated in Global Giving Month activities – volunteering, helping with collections, and fundraising. Our teams at our Scandicci and Scarperia locations partnered with cancer charity ANT Italia Onlus to rollout pop-up fundraising shops. They also organized collections and packing events in conjunction with foodbank charity Banco Alimentare and worked with homeless organization La Ronda della Carità e della Solidarietà to donate and package up winter clothes and toiletries. €1,255 was collected for ANT Italia Onlus plus 28 boxes of clothes and 18 boxes of food.

  • McCormick South Africa and Madibatlou School

Our South African Dignified Dreams team organized a collection of items including sanitary pad packs, deodorant soap and 700 bags of Nik Naks. These were then packed into 220 gift bags and distributed to Madibatlou Middle School, close to our premises in the country.

Asia Pacific Zone (APZ) and China Regions

  • McCormick China – Various Activities

McCormick China kicked off its 2023 Charity Month with a live streaming charity sale hosted by the HR team, creating a fun and engaging experience, and providing a new way for our remote sales employees to participate. In the end, 415 employees placed orders online to make a donation, raising a total of CNY36,783.

Our Shanghai MTR office, Jiading factory, Wuhan factory and Guangzhou factory offered in-person activities such as a food bazaar, games, and hearing stories from our NGO partners.

Meanwhile, the SAGE Employee Ambassador Group (EAG) organized four volunteering activities in three cities and encouraged local employees to participate in community service, including visiting and delivering vegetables for the elderly in addition to river clean-ups. They also initiated the "Children's Books Donation" campaign with a goal of collecting 500 children's books to be donated to Yudong Elementary School in Xincheng Town of Guangdong Province.

  • McCormick Singapore and Willing Hearts and Singapore Breast Cancer Foundation – Food Preparation and Pink Ribbon Walk

McCormick Singapore partnered with Willing Hearts to help in the preparation and delivery of cooked meals to thousands of underprivileged seniors and families in Singapore. Employees donned aprons, gloves and hair nets and helped out readily working in the chillers, kitchens and storage rooms. From shelling salted eggs, sorting out donated food, cutting watermelon into bite sizes to assembling sandwiches, everyone had a big smile on their face as they kept busy with their tasks while engaging in much-missed hearty conversations with fellow colleagues.

Employees also packed goodie bags in support of the Singapore Breast Cancer Foundation Pink Ribbon Walk 2023. The event is held every year to build Breast Cancer awareness in the public while rallying for solidarity, hope and courage to show support for the breast cancer community.

  • McCormick Australia – OzHarvest Van Ride

Volunteers from McCormick Australia coming from across our sites in Melbourne and Palmwoods took turns to spend their morning with an OzHarvest van driver.  This is a van ride with a really meaningful purpose as the volunteers come together in a bid to reduce food waste and feed the underprivileged. The volunteers went around the OzHarvest yellow truck named ‘Ernie’ to collect fresh and unsold food from local supermarkets and deliver them to charities to feed the hungry. This effort has moved an impressive 1500kg of food per van per day, which would otherwise have gone to waste.

  • McCormick Thailand – Onsite Food Sale to Raise Funds for Local School Children

About 30 volunteers from our Amata, Thailand office came together to organize, bake and cook delicious foods for local colleagues in order to raise funds for underprivileged children in local schools. The funds of almost THB15,000 will go a long way in purchasing school supplies and supplementing meals for the school children.

  • McCormick India – Onsite Food Sale to Raise Funds for Robin Hood Army

Colleagues from the Gurgaon office in McCormick India came together to prepare and sell cooked food in the ‘Cook & Sell’ event held at the office. The funds of INR34,500 raised was then used to purchase food that was served by our volunteers in conjunction with the Robin Hood Army to support the less fortunate people in Gurugram.
