Emissions from McCormick’s value chain account for over 95% of our carbon footprint. Our near-term SBTi validated goal is to achieve a 42% absolute reduction in these emissions by 2030 from a 2020 baseline.
McCormick co-founded with Supplier Leadership on Climate Transition collaborative with Mars, PepsiCo, and Guidehouse in 2021 with the aim of providing subsidized training and mentorship to suppliers to incentivize and mobilize collective climate action. McCormick is expanding the number of our products that are grown using regenerative agriculture practices worldwide. We are working with our suppliers, industry partners and our farmers to implement crop management and animal management practices that promote soil health, optimize water efficiency, sequester and avoid carbon emissions, and promote biodiversity. McCormick is engaging suppliers on carbon emissions reporting and decarbonization through HowGood; a SAAS that is designed specifically for food companies. The Supplier Connect portal enables McCormick and our suppliers to develop custom carbon footprints for raw material ingredients and packaging that reflect real supply chain sourcing geographies and operations.

McCormick is participating in the Sustainable Dairy Partnership; an industry coalition that is driving the development of the sustainability agenda for the global dairy industry. The coalition has developed a sustainability roadmap for dairy suppliers, standardized benchmarks for supplier sustainability progress, and provides access to a common reporting hub including a standard milk carbon footprint.

We are taking bold action to reduce emissions across every stage of our packaging lifecycle by working with our packaging suppliers to design materials with lower carbon intensity. This work is focused on lowering the use of virgin materials and increasing post-consumer recycled content, design for recyclability to increase packaging recovery, eliminating non-recyclable components and lightweighting strategies that reduce transportation emissions. In partnership with our suppliers, we are also implementing energy-efficient manufacturing processes, energy recovery within the production process and transitioning to renewable energy sources at supplier sites.
