Asia Pacific Zone (APZ) International Day of Charity

APZ Day Charity Fullbleed

Our employees in the Asia Pacific Zone (APZ) celebrated International Day of Charity during the month of September by standing with local communities.  There was an air of excitement in the region as for the first time in over two years, employees spread over Australia, India, Thailand and Singapore were able to lend their volunteering power in person.

"Doing what’s right for our community continues to guide our business and people in APZ. We’ve learnt especially during the pandemic that collective strength from the community is critical to helping us rise above challenging times both as individuals and as a business. Our people are all just very glad to be able to bring our PLP values to life through actual hands-on actions to support our communities after such a long time," said Daniel Moorfield, President of APZ.

This was how employees from APZ gave back to their communities.

Singapore

About 20 employees from McCormick Singapore partnered with Willing Hearts to help in the preparation and delivery of cooked meals to thousands of underprivileged seniors and families in Singapore.  Employees donned aprons, gloves and hair nets and helped out readily working in the chillers, kitchens and storage rooms.  From shelling salted eggs, sorting out donated food, cutting watermelon into bite sizes to assembling sandwiches, everyone had a big smile on their face as they kept busy with their tasks while engaging in much-missed hearty conversations with fellow colleagues.

Australia

A total of 21 volunteers from McCormick Australia coming from across our sites in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sunshine Coast took turns to spend a day with an OzHarvest van driver throughout the months of August and September in a bid to reduce food waste and feed the underprivileged at the same time. The volunteers went around in our co-branded yellow truck named ‘Ernie’ to collect fresh and unsold food from local supermarkets and delivered them to charities to feed the hungry. This effort has moved an impressive 1500kg of food per van per day, which would otherwise have gone to waste.

Thailand

McCormick Thailand partnered with the Scholars of Sustenance Foundation (SOS) to prepare cooked food packages and 500 sets of Relief supplies that were given to vulnerable groups in communities close to Amata City Chonburi Industrial Estate where our manufacturing plant is located.  Good quality surplus food that would otherwise get thrown away were collected and made into nutritious meals for those in need.  The team of 30 volunteers also helped to unload, pack and deliver the Relief supplies to the communities made up mostly of the elderly, low income, single mothers and children in need, homeless people, as well as the institute of emergency medicine.

India

Our team in India took part in volunteering activities to provide the students at Government Girls’ School in Sonipat, India, with their mid-day meal.  Sonipat is also where McCormick India has a manufacturing plant.  In addition to sponsoring their mid day meal, the team also donated and distributed dry ration kits to school students (most of them from the slums) consisting of wheat, rice, pulses and oil to supplement critical nutritional needs of these growing children.
