Learning Opportunities at McCormick: Meet the Global Learning and Development Center of Expertise

At McCormick, we offer regular training and development opportunities to employees to empower everyone to thrive and grow in their careers. Through the Global Learning and Development Center of Expertise, McCormick offers a wide range of resources and courses to help employees develop their job and career skills, and employees are encouraged by managers to seek development opportunities that are right for both them and the business. 

“It is the goal of McCormick’s Global Learning & Development team to continue to fuel a learning organization that fosters inclusive leadership and embodies innovation and growth behaviors, where all employees have the opportunity to reach their full potential,” said Mary Barranco, Vice President, Global Learning and Development. 
Below, take a look at some of what the Global Learning and Development Center offers:

1. Onsite and Online Classes. As part of McCormick's goal to be an employer of choice, our learning organization model includes classroom instruction via online and in-person classes, filtered by job function and skill set. And most recently, The Learning and Development Center of Expertise team launched "Leadership Academy," a new program to develop the skills and capabilities of McCormick's leaders and managers. This program includes interactive, on-demand, and virtual instructor-led courses, designed to develop the leaders of the future.  

2. Power Hour Series. The Power Hour Training Series was introduced in 2020 to teach best practices for success. Every two months, the series covers a new topic around enhancing virtual work skills, individual effectiveness or teamwork. So far, the series has covered topics like, "Working Together Virtually," "Prioritize Tasks and Create More Balance," "Building Resilience," "Own Your Development," "Conflict Resolution," and "Can Positivity Make a Difference?" 

3. Leadership Café Series
. McCormick is invested in regular coaching and feedback from managers, which provides employees with support and empowerment to further their learning and development. The Leadership Café Series are quick, virtual information sessions that provide support for managers. In the sessions, managers can connect with peers around the world and access valuable development resources. 

4. INNOVATE.ALL Initiative. Innovate.ALL was launched company-wide to help strengthen a culture of innovation and inclusion, accomplish team goals, and drive business results. With their teams, employees participated in live sessions to learn "growth behaviors" that help employees adopt new ways of working and achieve outcomes such as generating new ideas and alternative solutions, moving quickly from idea to execution, experimentation and collaboration, and holding yourself and others accountable.
