Types of companies eligible for our Supplier Diversity Program (SDP)

Minority-Owned Business Enterprise (MBE)

At least 51% owned, controlled and/or operated by a minority group member or members. In addition, MBEs are for profit and physically located in the United States or its trust territories. Minority groups include (but are not limited to):

  • African Americans
  • Asian-Pacific Americans
  • Hispanic Americans
  • Native Americans
  • Asian-Indian Americans

Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE)

At least 51% owned, controlled and/or operated by women. A WBE is also for profit regardless of size and physically located in the United States or its trust territories.

Small* Disadvantaged Business (SDB)

At least 51% owned and controlled by a socially and economically disadvantaged individual or individuals.

American Veteran-Owned Business (VOB)

A small business* of which 51% of which is owned by a veteran who also controls and operates the business. Types of veterans who qualify include:

  • A person who served in the U.S. Armed Forces and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable.
  • Vietnam-era veterans who served for a period of more than 180 days, any part of which was between August 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975 and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable.

Service Disabled American Veteran-Owned Business (SDVOB)

A small business* of which at least 51% is owned by one or more service-disabled veterans who were discharged for disability or, in the case of any publicly owned business, at least 51% of the stock of which is owned by one or more service-disabled veterans.

Owner is further defined as one or more service-disabled veteran(s) with a permanent and severe disability, whose spouse or permanent caregiver controls the management and daily business operations.

Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Zone Company

In addition to being located in a historically underutilized business zone, this type of small business* needs to be owned and controlled by one or more U.S. citizens and have at least 35% of its employees residing in a HUB Zone.

Source America/Ability One Program

A national nonprofit organization that creates employment opportunities for individuals with severe disabilities.

Lesbian, Gay Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT)

A U.S.-based business concern (a) which is at least 51% owned, operated, managed and controlled by an LGBT person or persons. Have its principle place of business (headquarters) in the United States.

Small Business Enterprise (SBE)

A small business* concern organized for profit, that is independently owned and operated, is not dominant in the field of operations in which it is bidding, and meets the Small Business Act size standards criteria for the NAICS industry to which it belongs.

Canadian Aboriginal Minority Supplier Council (CAMSC)

Certifies that businesses that are 51% or more owned, managed and controlled by Aboriginal peoples and/or visible minorities, and provide the products/services outlined in their supplier profile. For purpose of CAMSC certification, visible minority is based on ethnic origin and not gender.

Certification Requirements

For McCormick to consider your company as a diverse supplier, it must be certified as a diverse supplier by one of the following third-party organizations:

  • National Minority Supplier Development Council (MBEs only) nmsdc.org
  • Womens Business Enterprise National Council or affiliates (WBEs only) wbenc.org
  • State, local or federal certifying agencies
  • Center for Verification and Evaluation (CVE) – Veteran-owned
  • National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC)

  • Small Business Administration (SBA)

*A small business is defined by section 3(a) of the Small Business Act 15 USC 632(a) and implemented by the Small Business Administration under 13 CFR part 121.
