McCormick’s Holly Booth brings home three medals for Great Britain at European Masters swimming championships

Blog Holly_Booth

Holly has been a part of the McCormick family for just over three years and is based at Littleborough. She has recently taken on a new role as Commercialisation Project Manager and prior to this she was a PPI technologist within the R&D team.

Looking back to where her passion for swimming began, Holly recalls that she spent much of her time in the pool growing up, often inspired by her twin brother Thomas who competed in the London 2012 Paralympics. Holly swam competitively from a young age before giving up the sport at university to focus on her studies, and it wasn’t until the Covid-19 pandemic that Holly rediscovered her passion for swimming. The national lockdown and the introduction of flexible working meant she had more time to train and swimming provided a welcome outlet in the midst of the global uncertainty.

Remarkably Holly had only been swimming again for 18 months before competing at the European Masters Championships (the class of competitive swimming for athletes aged 25 years and older) that began at the end of August, where she came first in the Women’s - 4x50 Free Relay and second in both the 50m Freestyle and Mixed - 4x50 Free Relay races respectively.

Not one to promote her own achievements, Holly shared a link to the television coverage of the competition with one of her colleagues who cleverly ensured Holly’s wider team were also able to cheer her to victory by gathering the whole team to watch the races live in the Littleborough conference room. Her team also organised a surprise party to congratulate Holly properly upon her return to the UK earlier this month.

On the back of this outstanding achievement, Holly is now focused on working towards competing at the World Masters Aquatic Championships next year… so watch this space.

Commenting on her most recent performance, Holly said: “I am still in disbelief that this time 18 months ago I was only just returning to swimming. My journey really has come full circle. In October last year I was at the National Championships and didn’t expect to receive any medals. Now coming away from the Europeans with a gold and two silver medals it’s been an incredible experience, and having so much support from all my colleagues at McCormick has been truly touching.”

The entire McCormick team are extremely proud of Holly’s fantastic achievements and please do join us in congratulating her. We look forward to witnessing Holly’s continued success, and wish her all the best for her preparations ahead of the World Masters Championships set to take place in Japan in August 2023.
