McCormick India is always buzzing with employee engagement activities. The work is led by the EEC “Employee Engagement Committee,” also known as the Happiness Team, and it includes McCormick employees at the country’s Head Office, the Manufacturing Facility, and the IT Centre.
At least once a month, the Happiness Team organizes activities ranging from community service to wellness and education, to sometimes, well, just plain happiness. Just this year the team engaged employees around pressing social issues, cultural traditions, and personal and professional development, all contributing to making McCormick a great place to work through meaningful, relevant content and interactions.
In March the happy group organized #BalanceforBetter, a week-long set of activities to celebrate International Women’s Day. Throughout the week employees engaged in conversations about stereotypes, unconscious bias, and more generally how to create an inclusive work environment. At the end of the week employees pledged to continue focusing on Balancing Views, Balancing Roles, and Balancing the Workplace.
In June, the team organized participation in APZ Green Week, another weeklong event that promotes environmental consciousness while strengthening a sense of community among employees. Activities included an e-waste recycling drive, and plastic-reducing efforts. On the occasion of International Yoga Day, on June 21, the team organized yoga sessions to promote its benefits. The happy team reported full-house participation with colleagues cheerfully practicing yoga asanas under the guidance of trained instructors.
Later in the year, to celebrate McCormick’s 130th anniversary, activities like workspace auctions, a food sale, and board games were part of an effort to raise funds for charity. The head office partnered with Robin Hood Army, an organization that serves meals to people in need. The manufacturing facility partnered with an NGO to serve meals to patients affected with Leprosy, and the IT Center, along with the head office, served meals (using Kohinoor products!) to underprivileged children in partnership with an organization named Diksha.
In October, when India celebrates the Hindu festival of lights, known as Deepawali, the happy team organized “Jashan,” which means “celebrations.” The event brought together McCormick employees, including the APZ Leadership Team, who took to the stage in an elaborate production rivaling the best of Bollywood.
With such obvious displays of energy, passion, and talent, we can’t wait to see what they do in 2020 to top this year’s performance!
